Our Care Services

Assisted Living

Assisted living residents are those who do not need skilled nursing care, but may need assistance with some aspects of daily life.  This can include  personal care such as dressing and grooming, monitoring of health, safety, and overall well-being, coordination of outside health care providers, assistance with medication, companionship, and more.

Our assisted living residents at Heartfields Assisted Living at Fredericksburg live in their own private apartment within our community so that they have the support and services they need, while continuing to be as independent and active as possible.

From our Special Care Director Wendy Calewarts:

Wendy Calewarts
Special Care Director

"I’m privileged to be the Special Care Program Director for the Bridge to Rediscovery program at HeartFields Assisted Living. I’ve had the pleasure of working with seniors for more than 15 years in a variety of health care settings.

Previously, I worked for a major hospital in Maryland providing health services to home bound seniors. After returning to my home state of Virginia, I quickly realized my biggest reward was interacting with people with Alzheimer’s and related dementia and their loved ones. I have worked specifically with Alzheimer’s and dementia residents as both a care giver and a Program Director for over 10 years. I strive to improve the quality of life of each resident that is a part of our Bridge to Rediscovery family.

If I can be of assistance please contact me at

Alzheimer's/Memory Care

At Heartfields Assisted Living at Fredericksburg, our unique approach to caring for residents with Alzheimer’s or memory loss, called Bridge to Rediscovery, includes helping each person to continue engaging in activities and with others to rediscover skills and interests, and to reach their highest potential at that moment.

Along with providing daily living assistance and coordinating any necessary medical care, we are dedicated to addressing our residents’ cognitive needs. Each staff member receives intensive training specifically in Alzheimer’s care.

Short-term Stays

Heartfields Assisted Living at Fredericksburg also offers short-term stays for seniors who need care after a hospital stay, or when family members travel out of town or simply need a short respite break from the stresses of caregiving.

Short-term stays can vary from a week to months. Short-term guests enjoy housekeeping services, dining, community activities, transportation and other amenities, as well as coordination of any necessary medical care and help with daily living activities.
